The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is offered in two different trim levels differentiated primarily by what's under the hood. The entry-level 535i model is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The BMW X5 M is a midsize high-performance sport-utility vehicle that's offered in a single trim level. Under the hood, this souped-up version of the regular X5 gets a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that puts out a whopping 555 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque. The Z4 is offered in three trim levels: sDrive28i, sDrive35i and sDrive35is. The 28i gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. That's less power than the old base six-cylinder, but it's more torque, and fuel economy is substantially improved. Besides a rather agricultural noise at idle, this is a sweet little engine. If it's not enough, however, the 35i comes with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Both cars have a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the 28i gets an automatic stop/start system. An eight-speed conventional automatic is optional on the sDrive28i, while the optional transmission for the sDrive35i is a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual (DCT). The 35is gets a revised version of the regular 35i's engine, boasting 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque with a temporary overboost function that pumps torque up to 369 lb-ft. DCT comes standard.

The BMW X3 is available in two models, which correspond to engine. The xDrive28i gets a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline-6 that produces 240 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The xDrive35i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Every X3 features all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The latter slings through gears with buttery, quiet ease and returns impressive fuel economy considering the engines' power.

BMW M6

                                             





The most recent BMW M6 was produced from 2006-'10. The coupe was available throughout that run, while the convertible arrived for '07. Both versions employed a 5.0-liter V10 engine that produced 500 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed sequential manual gearbox (SMG) was standard, while a traditional six-speed manual was available in all but 2006 models. Compared to its contemporary M5 sedan, the M6 offered greater performance due to a slightly lighter curb weight and a lower center of gravity.

BMW Z4 M

                                           

The most recent BMW Z4 M was produced from 2006-'08. This Z4-based sports car was available as a convertible two-seat roadster or a two-seat hatchback.
Power came from a 3.2-liter inline-6 that delivered 330 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. Though the BMW 1 Series is the company's least expensive model, it's hardly an underperforming stripper.
